Hillside opera in Österlen
Over the years, thousands of guests have experienced chamber opera on Drakamöllan’s opera hillside. So far we have had ten Operas, and among them all the old classics. For many guests, this has been the first time they have experienced an entire opera. Our vision has been to create a Swedish Glyndebourne, an annual opera festival under open skies, which in summer brings music lovers from near and far together.
Drakamöllan’s opera festival takes place at Midsummer. Since it started in 2009, ten full performances have been recorded, with our own opera choir and the support of Musik i Syd. Find all the performances here.
During other times of the year we invite you to the evening performances in our dining room, where we combine “big voices” with delicious food and wines.
Artistic director for our opera initiative is Guido Paevatalu. After a long career as a soloist at The Royal Theater in Copenhagen, Guido is currently leading his own chamber opera ensemble – guidOpera – performed on stages large and small in the Nordic region. GuidOpera and Drakamöllan have collaborated to create an opera for children, Draken Kjetil (Chetil the dragon). The aim of Draken Kjetil is to give children a big and genuine opera experience, with a live orchestra, opera singers from the big opera stages, exciting decor and strong feelings – everything that we associate with and love about opera.
